About the Discoverer
Sota Omoigui M.D. is CEO of State-of-the-Art Technologies Inc and Medical Director of the L.A. Pain Clinic in Hawthorne, California. He is board certified in Anesthesia with subspecialty certification in Pain Medicine. He has served as an adviser to the United States, FDA Advisory Committee on Anesthetics and Life Support Devices.
He has 1037 plus Google Scholar citations for his scientific research work.
He is a Recipient of the US FDA Advisory Committee Service Award, in recognition of his distinguished service to the people of the United States of America.
Since the dawn of time, 300,000 years ago, Mankind has tried to understand the origins of pain. From Athenian philosopher Plato (c. 428 to 347 B.C.) to the 1644 pain theory , by the French philosopher Renee Descartes to the 1965 gate control theory by Melzack and Wall. None of these theories have withstood the test of time.
In his seminal book titled: The Biochemical Origin of Pain and published in 2002, Dr Sota Omoigui proposed his theoretical law that the origin of pain is due to inflammation and the inflammatory response. His subsequent publication of his theory as a journal article in 2007 has been cited as of this date by 493 medical publications. In his 2002 theory, he demonstrated a clear association between migraine and the release of inflammatory mediator calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) and substance P (SP). In 2019, seventeen years later, the US FDA approved members of a new class of drugs specifically designed to treat migraine by targeting calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP). Those drugs have been the greatest advance in the treatment of migraine.

Patients with sickle cell disease often suffer from painful attacks known as vaso-occlusive crises, during which their sickle-shaped blood cells get stuck in tiny capillaries, depriving tissues of needed oxygen. Now, researchers from MIT, CMU and UPitt have developed a tiny microfluidic device that can analyze the behavior of blood from sickle cell patients.

Prevention and Clinical Management of Sickle Cell Crisis
Prevention
When there is any stressor during the day, as listed below, the person should use oxygen as described:
Inhale oxygen for 10 minutes to 2 hours before sleep or use the oxygen for as long as needed for part or the entire duration of sleep.
Flow rate:
Children 0.5-1.5 lpm
Adults - 1-2 lpm
Note: Sleep is the most dangerous time as the low oxygen environment will tip the person into a crisis:
Physical stress: eg from physical activity
Intellectual stress eg preparing for exams, writing papers
Environmental stress eg cold environment, high altitude, air travel
Physiological stress eg during sleep, excess heat, dehydration, pain, emotional stress, infection, malaria.
Note: Infection and malaria, bone marrow suppression from toxic doses of Hydroxyurea or hemolytic crisis from antibodies in improperly cross matched blood transfusions, also need to be prevented and timely treated. Otherwise there will be more reversible sickle cells than oxygen can restore.
Treatment
Home Oxygen used to stop a crisis in the golden half hour (30 mins) of onset of pain. If the crisis does not stop, please proceed to the hospital as you may be having an infection, malaria or hemolysis
Hospital Pain Control
Proper and rapid control of pain is critical to alleviate suffering and more importantly to prevent acute chest pain syndrome resulting from chest splinting and shallow breathing leading to low oxygenation. Acute chest syndrome has 25% mortality. Pain Control is achieved by the use of pure opioids like Morphine, Pethidine, Hydromorphone and potent analgesics like Ketamine. These should be combined with anti-inflammatory drugs like Diclofenac or Ketorolac. Weak opioids like Pentazocine or Tramadol should never be used to treat the pain of a sickle cell crisis. Pentazocine also has psychiatric side effects and is banned in the United States.
Hospital Fluid Management
Sickle Cell patients have increased risk of pulmonary edema due to diastolic dysfunction. Monitor fluid input and output. Also include the amount of blood transfused. Pulmonary edema can be confused with acute chest syndrome and both have a high mortality rate.

Good afternoon Dr Sota. I am in the United States.My son is four years old with sickle cell anemia.
He was diagnosed through the new born screening. The drs here have had him on hydroxy urea medication and penicillin prophylaxis since he was about 18 months. While he hasn’t complained about pain much, he has however been hospitalized several times since birth for mainly acute chest / pneumonia.
Last year he was hospitalized more than six times for acute chest.
Due to your direction, my husband and I got the oxygen concentrator in March this year and since then, he hasn’t been hospitalized at all, which is the longest time we’ve gone without hospitalization.
Our approach has been that whenever we feel his fever coming on, we’ve immediately put him on the oxygen or overnight when his breathing b is shallow. We are certain the oxygen has played the crucial role in reducing our hospitalizations.

Good day Dr. Sota. May God bless you real good. Pls, my son Haa been using the oxygen tank since October last year n has successfully combated 2 crises. Initially, he was skeptical about using it. You may remember that some time ago, I informed you that I'd purchased a POC and that I was going to spend time to observe its effectiveness in the prevention/ abortion of a sickle cell crisis.
Since then, I've been quiet, just to enable me have an honest assessment.
I am pleased to inform you that beyond any reasonable doubt, I can claim unequivocally that I ve found its usage worthwhile in the 2 respects stated above (prevention & abortion). Home Oxygen Use, my experience with my patients.@ Dr Onogu Ernest Ugochukwu.
I had an average monthly hospital attendance of Sickle cell disease patients of fifteen to twenty five crisis cases, up until early this year 2025. About 75% of them presented in ,mainly Vaso- occlusive and Hyperhaemolytic Crisis States , triggered by either malaria or bacterial infections or unknown (stress).
The attendance has reduced drastically since February to less than five monthly. The hospital admission has also reduced because most of the admissions are due to SCD patients in Crisis! I had recommended the Home Oxygen administration within the Golden Half to them in January 2025. Most of them acquired either the oxygen cylinder with refill or oxygen concentration machine. One thing that is very clear is that the frequent hospital visits have reduced drastically. Few who visit now come for their routine checks. It's a wonderful experience for me as a clinical Haematologist. Oxygen administration has been part of the protocol in my management of SCD crisis but I never achieved the outcome I have now with the home use of oxygen. This prevents the crisis and reverses it when given within the first 30 minutes of the onset of the crisis . This is a great discovery that should be handsomely rewarded! I am proud of Dr Sota Omogui .He has made a very innovative contribution towards resolving the difficulty in the effective management of SCD especially in preventing and reversing the Crisis . With this discovery, SCD patients will begin to enjoy good quality of life and wellbeing which will certainly ensure long life . All my patients are very happy with the news even when they are yet to acquire the home oxygen concentration machine or refill cylinders. I was able to deliver the machine to my son about 3 weeks ago in school .They were about to start their semester exam. He has started using it. [5:30 PM, 11/07/2025] Daughter's Sickle Cell Crisis and the Power of Oxygen
Hi, it's Cydney. I'm calling because we had an issue with our oxygen concentrator, and we're waiting for a medical-grade one to arrive.
One morning, my daughter was outside playing and suddenly felt pain in her knee. We immediately brought her inside and put her on our oxygen concentrator. Unfortunately, since it wasn't medical-grade oxygen, it didn't help much, and it was a really rough situation. We gave her pain medicine, but I realized we were already 30 minutes past the ideal window for intervention.
We continued giving her pain medicine all day, but by night, her chest started hurting. I rushed her to the emergency room. MY TESTIMONY
I want to thank God for the privilege of being added to Sickle Cell Discovery 2, a WhatsApp platform that opened my eyes to the new discovery by Dr Sota, about the home use of oxygen Concentrator for the management of Sickle Cell challenges.
The discovery proves that:
1. Crisis (which most of the time is the foundational causes of some other health issues in Sickle cell patients), could be prevented in Sickle Cell warrior if an oxygen Concentrator is used by the worrior within the 30mins when crisis is setting in. The period within this first 30 minutes is called golden half hour. The discovery presents that the Oxygen Concentrator is used for cure when used this way. The crisis is automatically reversed when used at this point.
2. Crisis and other health issues related to sickle Cell could be prevented through the home usage of the machine. The machine is used before and/or after stressful daily activities, before pains, crisis and other health issues set in.
It is exactly 28 days now that my 21 years old daughter, has access to her own personal Oxygen Concentrator. She used it for the first time, just for like 2 hours or thereabouts, during the midnight.
* The first testimony when she woke up in the morning, that was Thursday 4th September, she told us that she slept calmly, so sound, and without pains. Of the truth we woke around 10am. She woke up so sound and healthy despite the fact that she went to bed sick.

If he is having home oxygen with him how come he is still having pains for 5 days? That means he did not use it. You have to teach him how to use it especially within the golden half hour. It’s obvious he did not use it within that time…oh dear! You have to be monitoring him. This children if you don’t monitor them, they can be carried away with one thing or the other. The last episode my son experienced right in my house thank God I was at home…the machine is stationed in his room and besides his bed…he was in the toilet when he called me with his phone, that “daddy pls lets go to the hospital, I shouted what?
